2023 CSEM Young Investigator Award Winner
Diversity Statement: In the event where the nominated candidates for the same award are scored closely, the award committee may select an individual who is a member of a group that has been under-represented among award recipients over the past 5 years.
Eligibility criteria:
- Must be a faculty member at a university for less than 10 years
- Candidate is currently appointed at a Canadian university
- Demonstrated excellence as an independent investigator in endocrinology research
- Must be a CSEM member with dues paid and in good standing.
Application procedure:
Complete the online submission form and submit supporting documents:
- Nomination letter explaining how the candidate has demonstrated excellence as an independent investigator
- CV of nominee (complete CV or CIHR-type CV)
Deadline: April 30, 2025. No late applications will be considered.
Reporting Requirements:
- All scientific publications and communications for which support of CSEM was acknowledged.
Presentation Requirements
The award winner is expected to present to the CSEM membership (ex. a webinar or at the Annual Professional Conference).

2025 AWARD RECIPIENT
Dr. Mohammad Jay

Dr. Mohammad Jay is a motivated, organized, and visionary trainee who combines intellectual curiosity, resilience, and a deep commitment to research with meaningful clinical impact— qualities that reflect the highest aspirations of this award. He is an exceptionally skilled clinician, a highly productive scholar, and a thoughtful leader in academic medicine. His research focuses on optimizing diagnosis and management pathways in thyroid and parathyroid diseases—areas of pressing clinical need. He also intends to pursue further fellowship training in these domains.

The committee has the discretion to determine if a nomination meets the existing criteria.
Eligibility criteria:
- Must be an MD research fellow in Endocrinology & Metabolism who, at the time of receiving the award, has completed two years of a Royal College–recognized Pediatric or Adult Endocrinology and Metabolism training program
- Must be pursuing additional research training in the field of Endocrinology and Metabolism
- The research project must be done in an accredited Canadian institution (all Canadian institutes/hospitals with university-accredited programs are eligible)
- Priority will be given to Canadians or permanent residents
- Must be a CSEM member with dues paid and in good standing.
Application procedure:
- Letter of intent from fellow, including career plans
- CVs of fellow AND fellowship supervisor (complete CV or CIHR-type CV)
- One-page summary of proposed research project
- Letter of recommendation by someone other than the direct supervisor (previous research mentor or training director)
Deadline: April 30, 2025. No late applications will be considered.
Notification of winner:
The winner will be informed by the end of June 2026.
Reporting requirements:
The award winner is required to submit a report to CSEM after two years.
- A summary of the project that was/is performed and location of the fellowship after the first year.
- Outcome of the project: completion, meaningful results, publications, and communications related to project.
- All scientific publications and communications during the period of the fellowship (2 years), related, or not, to the project.
