April 21, 2022: Florinef® shortage announced

Paladin Labs has confirmed that there is currently a shortage of fludrocortisone acetate (Florinef®) due to limited availability and delay in shipment. They anticipate that the shortage will last until May 16, 2022.

With no similar drug available, though not ideal, some patients may need to obtain mineralocorticoid effects with higher doses of hydrocortisone or by switching to hydrocortisone (from prednisone or dexamethasone), as well as consider increasing salt intake. Each patient will need individual adjustments and monitoring if they run out of fludrocortisone.

You can monitor the shortage on the Drugs Shortages Canada site.
